January 6, 2011 Dear Jack, 329,455 abortions. $487.4 million in taxpayer subsidies. Seven videos showing alleged criminal activity. Liberal media’s coverage of Planned Parenthood’s scandals: minimal. As reported by the Media Research Center’s Culture and Media Institute, Planned Parenthood’s annual report reveals shocking data, none of which received adequate coverage by the national press. In Fiscal Year 2010, Planned Parenthood received 34% more in federal money than in the previous fiscal year. During that same period, the group saw a decline in adoption referrals. How can this be? More tax subsidies for abortions, but fewer referrals to save lives? This is outrageous and immoral. Urge the national media to tell the truth about Planned Parenthood! To add fuel to the fire, the pro-life group Live Action released seven videos showing Planned Parenthood staffers allegedly assisting sex traffickers at seven different clinics evade mandatory reporting requirements. These shocking videos prompted the House of Representatives to investigate Planned Parenthood and reassess the group’s federal tax subsidies. Yet less than 8 percent of stories on three major networks about Planned Parenthood mention scandals. And the networks mentioned Live Action’s “sting” videos only three times in the last year! Contrast this sparse coverage with how the networks covered the supposed controversy surrounding a counseling facility operated by Michele Bachmann’s husband. In the first week alone after the story broke, the networks ran six stories, predictably all skewed to fit the false narrative that Michele Bachmann and her husband hate homosexuals. Click here to stand with us against this blatant hypocrisy. You would think that the abortion provider’s services subsidized by your tax dollars—a reality most Americans find abhorrent—would by itself attract national media scrutiny. But when you couple this with alleged criminal activity documented on video, as well as a Congressional investigation, there is absolutely no excuse for the media to ignore this important news story. Quite simply, it is a dereliction of journalistic duty. Planned Parenthood is subsidized by taxpayers, refers fewer mothers to adoption services, and to top it all off, is the subject of a House of Representatives investigation stemming from a series of videos documenting possible criminal activity! We know that the national media would NEVER look the other way if a conservative group was embroiled in these types of scandals.
