Daily Caller Op-Ed: The Tea Party Isn’t Dead

It should come as no surprise that there’s been a lot of talk in the mainstream media recently about the “death of the Tea Party.” This is an old narrative that the establishment and its media allies have tried several times already, and those of us in the movement know to ignore it by now. But with so many grassroots Conservatives finding themselves frustrated with their choices of presidential candidates, this seems like a moment to affirm our strength and plot our course to take this country back.

The Daily Caller was kind enough to publish my thoughts on this topic, in an Op-Ed titled “The Tea Party Isn’t Dead.” In it, I conclude:

Were the tea party movement a unified bloc, with a D.C. lobbying office, allies inside the establishment elite, and an agenda formed by special interests and big-money donors, the pundits might be correct in pointing out the tea party’s “weakness” in this presidential nomination process. But this assumption ignores how fundamentally the tea party has changed politics…

What the pundits are really saying is not that the tea party has lost its clout, but that the tea party has failed to play the traditional game of Washington, D.C. politics. This condemnation should be a badge of pride for the tea party: it is signal proof of success, not failure.

  1. Jeanie Krier says:

I agree with your comment. I don’t hear as much of the Tea party now as we did when we were marching, and making a presence but I do not believe for one minute that the Tea Party is dead. I am hoping that we can regroup, and with even stronger forces, before the election, using the strength in numbers to take over the senate and keep the failures of Obama very present and obvious. WE MUST TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK! I believe the Tea Party is the one vital tool in moving forward.

    • Dakota Sunshine says:

I consider myself a tea party person. But I truthfully am not hearing much from the tea party. Is that good or bad? I don’t know. I personally think that Tea Party people are fair and are probably letting the candidates show their real selves. I seem, at this point, looking more to Newt as he is both socially and fiscally conservative and is the only who has a record to show for that. Now if Sarah would run I would be very happy.

We also need to be looking at our present congresspeople as to how they are doing and are they representing us. We need to start canning republicans and democrats that are not representing us….Actually I think we need to can the democratic party as they have been taken over by Progressives.

  2. Darla says:

Your comments are so very true. We need T-shirts that say “Tea Party – We’re not dead yet!”

  3. dick hillman says:

THE BEST IS YET TO BE FOR THE TEA PARTY. KEEP UP THE FIGHT,OR KEEP ON KEEPING ON

    • Joanie says:

No, the tee shirt should say alive and well.
I do think more information about the tea party would be helpful.
Thank you for your efforts in restoring our country and educating others about obama and his efforts to destroy our country.

  4. Crice says:

We are here, we are strong, we will be heard!!

  5. Allen Mutzig says:

I think the Tea Party is there and strong. However, it seems that it has been very quite. Also, I think it should be consolidated into one. I note a Calif and Washington DC branch. More events nedd to be organized in order to force Media coverage. And then we need a major turn out the vote to defeat Obama and the rest of the LIBS in 2012.

  6. bill says:

I don’t think the tea party is dead but if Sarah palin don’t stop trying to steal the gop nomination in Tampa it will be obama will beat her just as bad as he would santorum she needs to keep quiet it clear that’s what she is doing and if she dont were stuck with obama for four more years

  7. dave says:

The TEA arty is far from dead. We are watching our representatives, making plans and gaining recruits. The 2012 election is going to be one like never before. I AM THE TEA PARTY!!

  8. Joel says:

I think you’re spot on. The TEA party is nowhere near dead. If it was you would not have the plethora of “tea party” candidates running for congress. And the continued succes of TheTEAparty.net only reinforces the argument.

  9. joe says:

do not have money to contribute like so many others but i believe in the tea party
objective ie smaller govt so i vote the tea party way

  10. norbert st pierre says:

The Tea Party started in the 1700′s and is the longest lasting ‘party” in the Country. Like the lawmakers are supposed to do, they go home until needed again!

  11. Rick says:

I hope not. But, could it be that is what we are suppose to think. There is too much animosity between the different fractions of the movement. We need to go as a collective group. United we stand divided fall. Wake up tea people.

  12. David says:

The media would like to belive that the Tea Party is dead, but its very much alive and well. It aint over till its over.

  13. Nancy Sue Wainwright says:

We are here. We are ready. We will vote! It is wishfull thinking for the MSM to think otherwise. They are just up to their old tricks – trying to convince us of something that isn’t.

  14. Brian says:

I am with you on most of what you have to say. Yes those who we oppose would love to write our epitaph and may get that chance if we do not turn out in whole, with all those we can drag with us to the polls. I say we must all begin to RALLY NOW!! make all the positive comments in all your blogging. make a case at every chance to make the point if we do not prevail it will be at the peril of our country and our way of life.
We will have no one to blame but ourselves if we continue the apathy I seem to see almost every day on the net. I see plenty of people willing to complain, ARE THEY READY TO TAKE ACTION AT THE POLLS! Time will tell.

Please to all, be sure you are registered to vote and so are your friends. Make sure you are registered PROPERLY ! our you may be denied the right to vote on some technicality. This is so very important. Do not let the Country down. As of today we are still free, lets keep it that way

    GO TEA PARTY!!!

Great article and you are right on. Keep up the good work!

ONLY TOO TRUE. Those people who align with the Tea Party are not necessariy just Republicans. I know of several who are actually Democrats, but their political beliefs match those of the Tea Party. I cannot wait to see what the final tally will be, AFTER we all vote in November. I am hoping that both the obvious Tea Party’ers, and the closet Tea Party’ers, will make one heck of an impact on WA DC.

  17. June Lange says:

Long live the Tea Party. It is about time that we Americans stood up for American principles and our indiviual freedoms and boot the crooks out of state houses, local offices and D.C.

  18. Virginia McFarland says:

Of course we are not dead. We are no more dead than Sarah Palin! She and we are a pain in the neck for them. We don’t play by their rules. We play by our rules – and so does Sarah, and they hate us for it. Perhaps they think that if they say this often enough, it will come true. No way!

May the Lord have mercy on us and give us mighty victories this November!

  19. Ray Sweeney says:

All the usual suspects in the lamestream Media would like to portray the Tea Party as a skeleton of what it was a few years back. The real truth is, not only is the Tea Party MUCH larger than it was a few years back, but altogether much more sophisticated and connected to the political activist arena. Frankly, it doesn’t matter what the left wing-nut pundits think about the Tea Party because they really are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Our focus goes well above their abilities to quantify or even comprehend what the Tea Party is doing. The bottom line is, the Tea Party successes nationwide are emerging quite well because of their disassociation with the lamestream, not in spite of it. We ride!

  20. Rick says:

Like most tea party people I don’t run my mouth I just vote

i certainly pray the TEA Party is not dead..
at the same time, it sort of lost a lot of it’s steam when the Cain train was derailed by attacks from both the Marxist media, and then TEA party leader Judson Phillips.. :-(

btw, i am backing Newt Gingrich, and not only is his true record is the most conservative, but his choices to fill his cabinet truly have me excited..

    thank you..

  22. Diane says:

There is a lot of Tea Party movement going on behind the sceens. At this point in time we don’t need to have a leader. Many like myself have been busy dealing with local races and local issues. We are also finding out all the problems we have with the Republican party. We have 100 yrs of garbage to clean up and it won’t happen overnight. This year we have to get as many as we can elected to both houses and when we unite we will get the WH back. We just have to stay on message and get that message out to as many as possible. Your comments are very true. Keep the Faith, God is on our side.

  23. Dead? Pulleeeeese. There’s nothing like independent conservatives scattered everywhere in Tea Party Groups that CAN NOT be catagorized, controled, or explained by anyone in DC or anywhere.
Movements of Principle have no geographic or political party characteristics.

the TEA PARTY will never die.it has always been.it was once called the silent majority.it’s more then just a party.it’s a feeling.it’s patriotism.it’s love of our country.it’s believing in our constitution.it’s a movement that will never go away.i firmly believe that obama and his cronies truly believed they could turn our country communist long before now.they never anticipated the ”TEA PARTY”!!. GOD bless us and the UNITED STATES. and may GOD send to hell the likes of people such as obama and his cronies.

You are right on. We are far from dead but waiting to insure our representatives do as they were elected to do that is represent us in Congress. Those who do their jobs well will be rewarded with another term, those that fail will be facing a challenger that represents the constitution and the republic we love.

  27. gerald berg says:

I dont beleave the tea party will let this country go to hell in a hand bag..However thats the way its going right now.

Remember Mark Twain, “rumors of my death” quip.

  29. Michael DeWitt McCown says:

I strongly agree with you! I do believe we will defeat the democrats and there candidate for president irregardless of who that person is. After this election we then need to turn our attention to both democrats and republiticans; who are not for the betterment of our freedoms. We need to get rid of all politicians that do not follow American ideas and our CONSTITUTION!!!!

  30. Ron says:

If the Tea Party is dead – so is this country!

  31. Roland says:

Those who think the Tea Party is weaker than it was, they should tell us why:
    1. Has the government become more responsible spending our tax money?
    2. Did the government make any serious effor to cut expenditures?
    3. Are there less regulations, easier to do business and hier new employees?
    4. What is the number of unemployed? only the 8% that still recveive the unemployment insurance, or is it 9+% that cannot find work?

  32. Robert says:

This type of journalism is a classic. Plant the thought seed and stir up controversy. The Tea Party is quite alive!
The opposition wants to build the idea in the general public to the opposite so makes such postings. It is also good for their ratings as people respond to the outrageousness of it, their ratings go up. Making such statements is an effort to grab those fence sitters and pull them over to the other side. Making that kind of statement is just political posturing and nothing more. When one is weak and feeling threatened, they will make such statements. Count on it. Then ignore it and continue doing our jobs of replacing these ultra-liberals with those with conservative track records (not just conservative talk).

  33. Fred says:

As many others have noted, the Tea Party, WE, are quietly waiting for the chance to vote and take back our nation constitutionaly! Can not wait!

  34. Lou Schroeder says:

    You are “Spot On,” Dustin!

The TEA Partiers are too smart to play by their rules of, the MSM & big government leftists that is.
The TEA Partys will play their own game, by their own rules, & let’s see who gets elected and/or not reelected!

“They,” a four letter word, BTW, fail to perceive, let alone understand the strength of the great multiplicity of independent, non-subservient TEA Partys – but they will see its results/influence on the morning of November 7th, 2012!

    God Save America|! -Lou Schroeder

There are oh so many “Old Sayings” that could apply here. The fact remains, If we are being talked about, lies told about us and smears directed at us. These are the proof that WE the Voice of the Citizens is being listened to. If the truth did not irritate them, they would be silent and we would have no way to know if we were being effective.
Good job Guys and Gals, They are telling us that we are winning.
