The Conservative Political Action Conference was held from Thursday to Saturday in Washington. I was a CPAC rookie, attending for the first time. It was a great opportunity and I got to see a lot of good friends. I also had the chance to interview some amazing people and the videos of those interviews will be featured in the next few days on Tea Party Nation. Perhaps the most eye-opening part of the whole even occurred when I had the chance to sit down and talk with a couple of friends. They own a business that is based in the Washington area. I asked the obligatory question: “How are things going?” The answer was unbelievable. My friends are trying to expand their business and are looking for office space. They just about cannot find it. In Washington, new buildings are going up all of the time. As I drove through parts of suburban Washington, I saw the construction for myself. I was told they were having trouble finding the space they wanted because every time one of these new buildings opens, the space is immediately filled by either government agencies or some of the companies that exist only to serve big government. Most of the now wealthiest counties in the nation now surround Washington DC. Where are property values going up the fastest? You guessed it, Washington DC. Earlier this year I flew to Charlotte, N.C. and to Las Vegas. Both times, I remember looking out from the plane window to see subdivisions that have been planned and started, that were at a complete standstill. In the subdivisions, there were either completed houses or empty lots. Mostly empty lots. There were no half-built houses. Washington is booming. The rest of America is dying. What is wrong with this picture? We cannot continue to allow Washington to suck our economy dry just to fuel an oversized and incredibly bloated government. The insanity of unrestrained government spending must be stopped. Our friends over at WND.com have launched the “No More Red Ink” Campaign. The idea is simple. It is to get our members of Congress to pledge they will not vote to raise the debt ceiling. If Congress refuses to raise the debt ceiling, Washington cannot spend any more money and spending must be cut. It is a simple and brilliant idea. The question is, why aren’t the Republicans onboard with this? It’s something I simply do not understand. If we do not get this spending under control now, America will continue to be a nation of a shrinking middle class and dying economy while Washington continues to grow and become rich.
