Liberty Counsel “Robot dragons, video games, Christmas trees, snow cone machines, and chocolate. This is not a Christmas wish list. These are just some of the ways the federal government spent your tax dollars this year.” U.S. Senator Tom Coburn wrote that in the introduction to his “Wastebook 2011” report that was just released. This report astounded me, and it didn’t even address immoral uses of tax funds like paying for Planned Parenthood’s abortion services! Now more than ever, Liberty Counsel MUST be able to continue holding our officials’ feet to the fire! See my important year-end message below – Mat. Jack, Senator Coburn said it best when he released his report yesterday… “Over the past 12 months, Washington politicians argued, debated and lamented about how to reign in the federal government’s out of control spending. All the while, Washington was on a shopping binge, spending money we do not have on things we do not need, like the $6.9 billion worth of examples provided in this report. The result: Instead of cutting wasteful spending, nearly $2.5 billion was added each day in 2011 to our national debt, which now exceeds $15 trillion.” Right now, the political volleying taking place on Capitol Hill is both exhausting to observe and impossible to understand: The Senate passed a stopgap measure extending the tax break for 60 days – then left town. The House rejected the Senate plan, passing a bill that extends the payroll tax break for 12 months. Now the Representatives are calling on Senators to come back to Washington to finish their work. Sen. Harry Reid is refusing to return and blaming the House Republicans. President Obama is chiding the GOP. Nancy Pelosi is blaming “Tea Party Republicans” and raising money to shut down the movement. Each chamber appears to be engaged in a contest of one-upmanship – while accusing the other of obstructionism. Yet, in 2011, according to Rep. Coburn, Congress thought nothing of recklessly spending tens of millions of dollars including these examples from his report… • $15.3 million for one of the infamous “Bridges to Nowhere” in Alaska. As we approach the New Year, we are faced with a stark reality: If federal spending is not deeply slashed, America cannot survive. During the three years President Obama has been in office, the national debt has increased by nearly $5 trillion. This kind of profligate spending is totally unsustainable! The actions taken in Congress on fiscal matters and what Americans like you and I do in 2012 will literally determine if America can survive. We enter this pivotal year living on financial life support. ++Every day, we are fighting for moral and fiscal sanity! Our vision is to “Take Back America” by restoring our nation’s core values, love of freedom, individual responsibility, fiscal and moral accountability, sanctity of life and marriage, and our Judeo-Christian heritage. ObamaCare is the biggest expansion of the federal government since the New Deal and is perhaps the single greatest legislatively-enacted threat to America’s core values in our nation’s history. ObamaCare, if fully implemented, will seal the fate of America by adding trillions of dollars more to the national debt. ObamaCare also represents the biggest federal funding of abortion in history.
