Happy Friday to all of you, and here's to a great weekend ahead. We've got an exclusive with Sen. John Hoeven of North Dakota, who has been one of the Republicans at the forefront of the Keystone pipeline controversy in the Senate. As Audrey Hudson reported last week, an amendment from Sen. Hoeven was defeated in the Senate that would have overturned the president's decision to block construction of the pipeline. The president did some hard lobbying to ensure the amendment's defeat, signaling yet again that this president is playing politics at the expense of the American worker. But today, Hoeven explains that his legislation addressed all of the president's original concern with the project, and Obama still lobbied against it. Just another instance of Washington not working for us, but against us.
If you are new to Daily Events, you probably haven't seen our contributor James Edwards. He is our immigration expert and has a wonderful piece today analyzing the administration's budget cuts in immigration enforcement. They are dangerous and pose a security threat.
Audrey Hudson has been following the jobs bill from start to finish, but today a new wrinkle is coming to light. Senate Democrats are hoping to drive a wedge between Capitol Hill Republicans by attaching a contentious measure to reauthorize the Export-Import (ExIm) Bank to the bill that passed in the House last week. Don't miss the story below.
Our columnists have several great pieces today, ranging from Patrick J. Buchanan's commentary on the Rush Limbaugh controversy, and Michelle Malkin is uncovering the myth of 'middle-class' Joe Biden.
Also — don't forget next week's election coverage of the Illinois primary. John Gizzi will be showcasing several House races from the Illini state that are pitting conservatives v. conservatives, and John Hayward follows the presidential primary. Will Mitt Romney win Illinois or will Rick Santorum put another wrench in to this muddled primary? Stay tuned to HUMAN EVENTS beginning Monday.
Have a great weekend!
