Whoooo's No. 1? Government says Northern spotted owl To save the northern spotted owl, the White House's latest plan is to shoot barred owls, a rival bird. You can't make this stuff up.
Rest In Peace, Andrew Breitbart Goodbye, happy warrior.
Obamacare regulations five times the length of the statute At 2,163,744 words, Obamacare regs are now longer than the epic novel War and Peace.

The White House's laughable jumping for joy at the announcement that a portion of the domestic pipeline from the major crude oil refining and marketing hub of Cushing, Oklahoma to Texas borders would be built is beyond absurd. A 1-pound bird attributed to the demise of the logging industry some 20 years ago in the northwest part of the country is back in the news.
The bird is the northern spotted owl, an endangered species, which is still struggling to survive, despite huge federal government interventions. The latest plan by President Obama is to shoot barred owls, a rival bird that has dominated its smaller counterpart.
This must be one special bird — worth killing another bird over and an entire industry that was once vital to this country as well as the thousands of jobs that went along with it.
The spotted owl was once thought to only be able to survive in old forests, overgrown and unmaintained. When it became an endangered special in 1990, and even before, great cutbacks were made in the logging industry throughout California, Oregon and Washington states. Yet, despite massive growths in forest land, the owl's population continues to decline.
Bob Mion, communications director at California Forestry Association, said that many sawmills in Washington State were forced to shut down because of the spotted owl. Come to find out, he says, the owl thrives on managed lands, not the untouched, mismanaged federal lands. The owl's favorite food is a wood rat, Mion claims. "If the forest is overgrown, it can't see the rat."
And that insight forestry experts have known for years is finally making its way to the White House — hopefully.

Americans for Limited Government (ALG) sends condolences to the family and friends of Andrew Breitbart, popular media guru who gained notoriety for leading the charge for conservative causes in unconventional ways. Breitbart died last night ofnatural causes. He will be missed.
ALG was fortunate to host an event featuring Breitbart in 2009 at the Union Pub in Washington, D.C. Then, he spoke about the urgency for conservatives to embrace pop culture to ensure the survival of the conservative movement, and the Republican Party.
"I really think that the only way that the conservative movement… people that want limited government, the only way we're ever going to be able to sell the idea is if we learn that the media is the message," had said Breitbart to an audience of new media personnel of not-for-profit organizations, conservative bloggers, and radio staff.
"We have like a ten to twenty year battle on our hands," the co-founder of Big Hollywood, the group blog that features contributions from high profile Hollywood conservatives, Big Government, and other popular websites.
Breitbart said he told GOP Congressmen in Washington to "stop acting like your great, great grandfather, and not be afraid of pop culture."
Breitbart believed strongly the conservative movement must engage in the culture war. "Every single pop culture arbiter," said Breitbart, citing David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Ellen Degeneres, and others, "they rigged the game so that they win on the media."
"Over 40 years of that dominance and the conservative movement following Paul Weyrich's, 'we lost the culture war… let's not fight it, let's not engage in it,' that's why we're in deep peril. It's not because of our political point of view. It's not because we don't have the right ideas," Breitbart said.
"It's because we don't play that game," he said.

As originally published at ObamacareWatcher.org.
As long as the Obamacare statutes1 are, its implementing regulations are now five times its length. With the publication of two new regulations in the Federal Register on February 27, 2012, we calculate Obamacare regulations to contain 2,163,744 words2 compared to 425,116 words in the Obamacare statutes. That's a million words longer than the last time we wrote about the length of Obamacare regulations last April.
Past calculations of Obamcare's length focus on the number of pages it contains. But, as any high school or college student can tell you, the number of pages depends on font size, line spacing, and margins. So, some have calculated Obamacare to be over 2,000 pages long. This was true when it was in bill form. But now that it has been signed into law, its statute form is just 961 pages.3
But because Obamacare has the same number of words no matter how you format it, word count is a more accurate way of calculating its length.
Just how long is 2,163,744 words?
The epic novel War and Peace is only 560,000 words long.
Atlas Shrugged weighs in at 645,000 words.
The Obamacare regulations appear to have even eclipsed what Wikipedia considers the longest published novel in either the Latin or Cyrillic alphabets. Artamčne, or Cyrus the Great (in French:Artamčne ou le Grand Cyrus) is a ten-volume, 13,095 page novel containing 2,100,000+ words.
By our count the King James Version of the Bible contains 830,314 words.4 That makes Obamacare regulations two and a half times as long as the Bible! If you add the text of the Obamacare statutes to its regulations, they are together three times as long as the Bible!

The irony of the Obama Administration excitedly proclaiming the good news that a portion of the Obama Administration-maligned Keystone XL pipeline would be built from Oklahoma to Texasshows a chutzpah unlikely to be seen again in the District.
The pipeline has been the subject of intense debate in Washington as Calgary-based TransCanada Corporation has sought Obama's approval to build a pipeline from the oil rich Alberta, Canada province to American refiners in the Houston area. And in an election year giveaway to his extremist environmentalist base, Obama has denied TransCanada's application to build it.
Let's be clear. Obama only controls about three inches of the pipeline — the three inches that cross the U.S./Canada border. He has nothing to say about whether TransCanada builds a pipeline from Alberta to the border, and nothing to say about whether a pipeline gets built from Cushing, Oklahoma to Port Arthur, Texas.
That is not the Obama State Department's jurisdiction.
So, the White House's laughable jumping for joy at the announcement that a portion of the domestic pipeline from the major crude oil refining and marketing hub of Cushing, Oklahoma to Texas borders would be built is beyond absurd.
Here are some basic facts.
Oil production in the lower 48 states has begun to accelerate due to increases in production on private and state lands. Production on federal land has fallen off severely since Obama took office.
