This week in Guns & Patriots...
Neil W. McCabe, Editor

Dear Guns & Patriots readers,

In the strange way dates come together, I always associate JFK's assassination with Thanksgiving, the Attack on Pearl Harbor with Advent and the Battle of the Bulge with Christmas.

The Battle of the Bulge is etched into our national psyche because it was such a fierce and powerful surprise that caught our boys in the midst of a deep, dark winter. It was our last Christmas at war, but unlike that Christmas after Pearl Harbor, it was a sucker punch to a country weary from four years of death and sacrifice. We were a nation who understood what war meant, so there were no snappy Battle of the Bulge songs on the radio.

I interviewed Jim Defelice, the author of "Bradley: General at War," about the Battle of the Bulge, and I hope you find it interesting. The audio is part of the Guns & Patriots podcast that I do with Brian H. Darling, who writes the "Legislative Lowdown" column for Human Events.

This edition of the G&P newsletter is the last one associate editor Jen Veldhuyzen helped me with as an intern. Jen is a remarkable young woman, who never imagined she would because enamored with the M-1 Garand or conversant in concealed carry versus constitutional carry. She will continue to contribute, but in the office, I am on my own, again.

Our video this week is a good news story from a Fresno, Calif., television station about a gun store's uniquely tender commercial.

My New Year's resolution? Learn Mandarin Chinese with this week's sponsor: The Pimsleur Approach. I will keep you posted on my progress throughout the New Year. Tell us what language you are learning and how it's going here.

The Go button will take you to the free download page for the GunCount, the gun inventory program with military-grade encryption that we developed to be fully compliant with the BATFE regulations to be true "digital boundbook." GunCountFree is a fully functional version that allows you to load in 10 guns. For more than 10 guns, you can purchase the GunCountPlus.

We just heard from a California crime lab that told us they are using GunCount to convert their inventory from an Excel spreadsheet. Keep the feedback rolling in!

Please take the time to check out all the articles this week, and again have a great Christmas!

Enjoy,

Common Sense: Iraq – Victory or Defeat?
Lt. Col. Oliver North, USMC retired

Washington, DC – They are coming home. For the first time since March 19, 2003, there are no U.S. combat or combat support troops in Iraq. There is still a contingent of U.S. Marines guarding the biggest American embassy in the world and the largest military attache's office at any diplomatic mission. But there is no doubt in anyone's mind -- ally or enemy -- that the war in Iraq is over. The only uncertainty now: Who won? Read More
