Merry Christmas!

Friends, I want to wish you a very merry Christmas from the Madison Project. It has been a great year for us and that is because of great Americans like you who are teaming with us.

We know 2012 is going to be a big year, but before we get there, we have the opportunity to reflect on the birth of a baby born thousands of years ago. The Son of God, who, as John so wonderfully wrote, was the "light that shines in the darkness." I love this season. We celebrate Christ's birth, we spend time with family, we share gifts and reflect on the year that has been while looking forward to the year to come.

As we wrap the year up, a few thoughts and an update from the Madison Project.

You all got the Action Alert 10 days ago for the Senate Republican leadership election pitting Senator Ron Johnson of WI against Senator Roy Blunt of MO. Unfortunately, Ron Johnson (the Senator we endorsed) lost by 3 votes. However, I think this is a good thing. It puts Johnson firmly in Jim DeMint's camp in the Senate and the razor thin margin victory of Blunt (Mitch McConnell's horse in this race) bodes well for leadership elections next November. Again, conservatives cannot be content with just winning at the polls. We have to win leadership elections and I think we made progress last Tuesday.

And, the Republican primary for President just got really interesting with the new poll numbers out today. My quick take on them. Newt is done, Ron Paul cannot win (too many non-Republicans in his camp, a bad scenario for closed primaries) and we're back to Mitt Romney versus. . . ? Things are shaping up for the Conservative Alternative to come charging through the pack. The one candidate in my mind who can still win is Rick Perry. He has the money and infrastructure that Bachmann and Santorum do not have. One way or the other, it's going to be an interesting next few months.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Drew Ryun
