Roundwood Timber Framing

If I'd had Ben Law's book Roundwood Timber Framing back when I was learning how to build in the '60s, I would have been inspired to plant and tend trees suitable for house framing — I could have framed several buildings by now as a result.

Such beautiful buildings.

Cloverleaf ComposterThree (Low-Cost) Composters

You've no doubt seen these composting drums advertised — and they are high-quality, "last a lifetime" units — but the commercial models usually carry a price tag of $225 or more! That's precisely why Mother's researchers have developed three different build-'em-yourself compost tumblers.

DIY KNOW-HOW
Bowline Step-by-StepThe Bowline

The bowline is always one of the first knots taught. Once learned, it serves as a basis for understanding many other important knots. But surprisingly few people know how to tie it — and even fewer can make reliable use of it in the field.

Tie it right.

Pine FloorInstall a Beautiful, Affordable Wood Floor

Many people who want to install wood floors look exclusively at oak and other hardwoods, but softwoods such as pine and spruce are usually less expensive.

Doesn't that look handsome!
