Dear Jack , As our federal government continues to expand, it puts more and more of our liberties at risk. As Thomas Jefferson so accurately wrote, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground." America is facing the consequences of generations of politicians from both political parties making promises without regard to cost or how we will pay for them. For instance, did you know that our government borrows 40 cents for every dollar it spends? Or that it spends an estimated $125 billion every year on payment errors? (There are so many examples that we've posted a few more here.) We can and must do better. Saving the American Dream is The Heritage Foundation's bold initiative to fix the debt, cut spending, and restore prosperity while keeping America safe.
